James Joseph Roderick is a visionary
painter based in Colorado and New Mexico. His skills lend themselves to
any mode of painting, but his style is uniquely his own. Almost a visual
presentation of the Latin "magic realism," his work has been described
by one critic as "classic surrealism."

From the Artist . . .
"I started out on
Cape Cod in the fifties, attended the Art Institute of Boston in the
early seventies and moved to the Southwest in the late nineties. The
past few years my art has been focused on the Goddess, you can almost
hear her when you walk the land out here."
"Living in the Southwest, I am currently captivated with the
Virgin of Guadalupe and She appears in many of my paintings. By
focusing on the Goddess I’m attempting to reawaken the feminine
spirit into a world that is unbalanced, a world that has swung too
far to the patriarchal. I’m drawn to the surrealist whose ideas
represent thought and emotion and the blending of dream and
non-dream states of consciousness."
